Ask me anything   About the Blog (and a bit about the blogger)

Central Floridian - photographer, illustrator, and (occasionally) very bad writer. This blog is mostly for my drawings and non-photographic-related creative-ish stuff.

Lunchbreak sketch from a few days ago. Figured a fresh post would be nice.

More ideas for using the two vintage Indian silk saris that arrived yesterday. This particular one I ordered as I liked these scalloped stripes on the pallu of the sari. I could see pinking them out and using them on an 1850s bone folder in a telegram-type treatment. The idea in using these on nineteenth-century frames would be that the finished product would say “I’m a woven en disposition silk cover from the 1850s” rather than saying “Hi, I’m a sari fabric.” But who knows.

A quick sketch of what Anna’s parasol probably looked like when new - save for the tassels, which when I did this I didn’t KNOW that they were originally ivory, but - you know - details, details.

Sketch for an eventual pen-and-ink-and-watercolor “sampler” type idea that I want to do for my own place. It’s Regretsy-inspired. It was also freehand, so that accounts for the slight wonkiness and perhaps, inconsistencies in the ornamentation within the letters themselves.
Govern yourself accordingly.

I randomly thought of this movie today - and remembered I had this crappy-fast sketch I did a while back. I want to revisit this quote later.

How much sense does it make to post an unfinished sketch? Eh?

Sketch for an alternate idea on the mid-nineteenth century smoking cap reinterpreted as menswear, done at about the same time as the Philadelphia Cap. This one’s a bit… more ridiculous, but a take on the segmented construction seen on some examples - done together in four to eight sections, almost constructed in a similar fashion as a parasol cover. This shape I thought would be best adapted as a bicycle cap, with the short bill.

Am I going to make up this cap? I don’t know. This idea would probably redrafted, once I had a look at a segmented bicyclists cap and compared its construction to that of the segmented smoking cap. So, no idea. But I thought it’d make for a post to keep things fresh here.

Considering the masculine direction things have taken a turn for here (not that I’m complaining) I figured we might as well continue on with it and see where it goes.

I really liked how this one turned out, for some reason.

Another sketch. This one done last night. It’s not perfect, but it’s something to look at.

Drawn during my hiatus, and when I just let my brain wander.
My subconscious can be a very strange place sometimes.
